Hello and welcome to a new school year! I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Duncan Haworth and I am looking forward to teaching Room 4 this year. I have been teaching for 17 years all in the year 7 & 8 level. This is my first year teaching at the primary level and I am excited with the challenges this will bring. I am very passionate about all sports and currently play soccer, golf and cricket.
This year will most definitely be a very busy one in Room 4, with our first unit; ‘All about me’, commencing later on this week. I really look forward to working with your child and making the transition into a new class, as smooth as possible. This week our primary focus is getting to know one another and familiarising ourselves with school expectations and routines.
Home learning will be a part of Room 4. This will be given out on a Monday and completed by Friday, ready to be marked as a class. Home learning will consist of literacy and numeracy skills and will cover areas being taught at the time. I encourage students to problem solve; however, I also encourage them to seek support when needed. This can come from parents, brothers, sisters and also myself.
I strongly believe that parental involvement is crucial to ensure success within the classroom. I look forward to getting to know you and working with you throughout the year. A great opportunity for this will be our beach education at Waihi. This will take place in February. This is a great time for parents to get to know not only myself but your child's fellow class members. If you are willing to be involved please let me know.
