Room 16

Kia Ora Te Whanau, Talofa Lava, Malo E Lelei and greetings to you all.

Welcome to Room 16. My name is Lynn Albiston and I am delighted to be your child’s teacher for 2018.  I am looking forward to working together to make this year a successful learning year for your whanau.  I am committed to doing everything within my power to make this a great year for all of us. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back students from last year and to welcome all the new students to my classroom and to our school. Thank you to those parents who have come into Room 16 and introduced themselves.  Congratulations to the children of Room 16 for settling into class routines quickly. We have had discussions on acceptable and considerate behaviours inside and outside the classroom. In order to help set the tone for learning for the day, it helps if your child is here before the bell rings. It helps to set the tone for the entire day. If your child is late they will need to go to the school office to collect a late note.

Houses:  Every child will be allocated a house this year. I will be sending home a card informing you which house your child in.

Stationery:  Thank you all those families who have purchased their stationery. Please check your child’s bag for notices. We will start our work in our books as soon as everyone in the class has been equipped with their books and pencils.  Thank you for your support with this matter.

Swimming:  Swimming is part of the Health Curriculum and it teaches children the basic skills to be safe.  If there is a medical reason why your child cannot swim please send this to school with a note. Room 16 swimming days are:  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child have their togs and a towel along with a bag of some kind to put their wet togs and towel into on these days.

Topic for Term One:  Our topic for this term is “Who am I?”  Each child will be learning basic information about themselves – their first/last name, birthday, their address etc.

Drink Bottles:  I am happy for each child to bring a water bottle and keep it in the classroom to drink during the day while the weather is hot.

Homework:  Your child will be bringing homework each night. Please encourage your child and help him/her with their homework. Your child’s homework is based on things that we have been learning in the classroom. Their book bag needs to be returned to school each day.  Homework is a great time to see what your child is learning at school. It is a time to enjoy working together. We will be all working towards encouraging your child’s learning with patience, praise and a sense of humour.

What is happening this Term:

  • Junior Cake Stall – 15th March
  • Junior trip – to Jump Trampoline Park – 22nd March
  • Parent Interviews to be held in Week 9

More information will be following at a later date.

I want to thank you in advance for all your support in the coming months and look forward to meeting you all over the next few weeks. Please feel free to come and see me anytime if you have concerns about your child or their learning.

Kia Ora. Thank you.
